Browned Butter Biscuits

  • 125 g butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups self raising flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • flaked almonds to garnish if using


  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Gently melt the butter in a small saucepan and heat until frothy and browning. Allow to cool off the heat for a few minutes.

  2. Beat the butter and sugar together. Add the beaten egg and vanilla. Fold in the self raising flour.

  3. Take dessert spoon fulls of dough and roll in a ball. Place on baking sheets and flatten slightly. Gently press a few flaked almonds into each dough round.

  4. Bake in preheated oven for approximately 15 - 20 minutes until golden.

  5. Allow to cool for 5 to 10 minutes on the tray before removing to a rack. Can be stored in an airtight container when slightly warm to help them stay soft.
