Preheat the oven to 180°C. Gently melt the butter in a small saucepan and heat until frothy and browning. Allow to cool off the heat for a few minutes.
Beat the butter and sugar together. Add the beaten egg and vanilla. Fold in the self raising flour.
Take dessert spoon fulls of dough and roll in a ball. Place on baking sheets and flatten slightly. Gently press a few flaked almonds into each dough round.
Bake in preheated oven for approximately 15 - 20 minutes until golden.
Allow to cool for 5 to 10 minutes on the tray before removing to a rack. Can be stored in an airtight container when slightly warm to help them stay soft.
